Course: Appetizer, Side Dish, Snack
Cuisine: American, Indian

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread of choice (I use white)
  • 2 tbsp softened butter (unsalted)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 serrano peppers, small (1/2 tbsp chopped) (hari mirch)
  • 1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper (chile flakes)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Method

Prep
  1. Rinse and finely chop the serrano peppers.
Cook
  1. In a small bowl add in softened butter, garlic powder, and finely chopped serrano peppers. Mix them well with a spoon.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread with the softened butter and pepper mix.
  3. Construct your grilled cheese toast by adding shredded mozzarella cheese first on all the slices and then topping the slices with shredded cheddar cheese. Further top all the slices with crushed pepper.
  4. Additionally, place the bread slices in the Air Fryer  basket and make sure they are separated out. If you don't separate them out the cheese will melt and stick to each other. If your basket is small you can make 2 toasts at a time and repeat the batch.
  5. Next close the basket and set the time and temperature on the air fryer at 330°F for 5 minutes.
  6. Once done, remove from toasts from the air fryer. The cheese should be melted and slightly brown and the toast should be crisp and golden brown. Finally. place them on a plate, cut in half and experience the magic of deliciousness.

Notes

  • You can reduce the amount of cheese if you desire.
  • If you like it very cheesy you can add more cheese.
  • If you don't want the toast spicy you can eliminate the serrano peppers and the crushed peppers.
  • On a scale of spice levels of 1 to 5, with 1 being low and 5 being hot, I would place this dish at 3.5. The cheese balances out the peppers, so even though it sounds super spicy its not. You can modify the amount of peppers as per your spice tolerance.
  • Make sure the butter is softened so that it spreads evenly and easily. To soften butter you can warm it up for a few seconds.
