Prep
- First, rinse and peel the potatoes. Secondly, Slice the potatoes into ½ inch to 1-inch thick sticks. Don’t slice them super thin, like shoestrings. Slice the potatoes evenly, this will ensure that all potatoes are uniformly cooked and browned.
- Soak the potato slices in cold water, in a bowl for a minimum of twenty minutes, and up to overnight. The longer, the better. Place them in the refrigerator, covered if you intend on soaking them. However, if you are in a rush you can eliminate the soaking process. I personally feel, soaking makes the fries crispy.
- When ready to cook, drain the water and pat the potatoes dry with a kitchen towel. Further, in a large mixing bowl toss the potatoes with 1 tbsp oil, salt, red chili powder (cayenne pepper), garlic powder, and black ground pepper.
Cook
- Grease your air fryer basket with 1 tbsp oil. I grease mine by rubbing, brushing, or spraying, a little bit of oil on the bottom grate. Then, follow your air fryer directions for preheating at 360°F for 5 minutes.
- When it’s preheated, working in batches, place the potatoes in a single layer. Cook in the air fryer at 360°F for 16 to 18 minutes. After the first 8-10 minutes, toss the fries in the basket (be careful as it's hot) so all pieces get nice and crispy.
