Prep
- Rinse and peel sweet potatoes. Chop to make fries about 1/4-inch thick, to be exact.
- Next soak the chopped sweet potatoes in a bowl of cold water. If you have time, soak them for at least 20 minutes in a bowl with cold water. Furthermore, if you have plan to make these the next day, soak them overnight. The longer you can soak them, the better. Also, store them in the refrigerator while they soak. However, if you don’t have time you can eliminate the soaking process.
- Once the potatoes have soaked, rinse and drain them. Then — also very important — use a towel to pat them down until they are nice and dry before moving onto the next step.
- In a large mixing whisk together 1 tbsp oil, salt, garlic powder, red chili powder, and ground black pepper. Toss the fries in the spice-oil mix and mix well.
Cook
- When you are ready to cook, grease your Air Fryer basket with 1 tbsp oil. I grease mine by rubbing, brushing, or spraying, a little bit of oil on the bottom grate. Then, follow your air fryer directions for preheating at 400°F for 8 minutes.
- When it’s preheated, working in batches, place the sweet potatoes in a single layer. Cook in the air fryer at 400°F for 8 minutes, turning it halfway for brown and crispy fries or 6 minutes, turning it halfway for slightly soft fries.
