Jump to Recipe

There is nothing easier than growing your own mung bean sprouts. Mung bean sprouts are a culinary vegetable grown by sprouting mung beans. All you need is some mung beans/ whole green gram lentils known as whole moong dal in hindi, a colander or a mixing bowl, a lid and some water.

Mung bean sprouts can be used in salads, soups, in dumplings or stir-fried as a side dish to be eaten with tortillas.

After figuring out how easy it is to make mung bean sprouts at home, I never resort to store bought sprouts.

How do I make Mung Bean Sprouts – Moong Dal Sprouts?

Steps:

Day 1:

First, place your mung beans into a bowl. Second, pick out the bad mung beans.

Third, rinse the mung beans well. Further, cover the beans with water, cover the bowl with a lid let them soak overnight.

Day 2:

Drain out the water in a colander. Rinse the beans once with clean water.

Cover the rinsed beans with a lid and place them in an oven overnight. You don’t need to turn the oven or even the light on. I like to place them in the dark in order to prevent them from getting bitter.

Day 3: You will see that your sprouts will have grown considerably when you check them in the morning. You can harvest them now, or keep them for another day. Rinse them before use.

Finally, store them in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
