Cheese Potato Toast – Air Fryer Spicy Cheese Aloo Toast – A delectable toast made with potatoes, spices and topped with cheese is one of my go-to recipes.

What ingredients do I need to make this recipe?

Bread of choice, boiled potatoes, serrano peppers, red chili powder, garam masala, ground cumin, dried mango powder, fresh cilantro leaves, unsalted butter, salt, and shredded cheddar cheese.

How do I make Cheese Potato Toast – Air Fryer Spicy Cheese Aloo Toast?

Firstly, scrub the potatoes clean if dirty and rinse them under running water. Remove and discard any sprouting areas. Secondly boil the potatoes until they are soft and can be mashed. I pressure cooked them, by placing them on a trivet in the instant pot with 2 cups of water for 10 minutes high pressure. Also, I let the pressure release naturally.

You can also use a stove top pressure cooker or boil them in a pot on the stove. They need to be tender so that you can peel and mash them easily.

Once you peel the potatoes, place them in a bowl. Then use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to mash them. Additionally, make sure there are no lumps. Further add in chopped serrano peppers, red chili powder, garam masala, ground cumin, dried mango powder, cilantro leaves and salt. Furthermore, mix well.

When you are ready to air fry, aggressively butter one side of each slice of bread with softened butter. Construct your toast by dividing the potato mix on all the 7 bread slices. Top with cheddar cheese evenly.

AIR FRY:

Place the bread slices in the  Air Fryer  basket and make sure they are separated out. If you don’t separate them out the cheese will melt and stick to each other. If your basket is small you can make 2 to 3 toasts at a time and repeat the batch.

Close the basket and set the time and temperature on the air fryer at 330°F for 5 minutes.

Once done, remove from toasts from the air fryer. The cheeses should be melted and slightly brown and the toast should be crisp and golden brown. Finally, place them on a plate, cut in half and experience the magic of deliciousness. Eat right away. If you keep it for too long it will get mushy.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 7 slices bread, large (I used white)
  • 1.5 pounds potatoes, 5 medium (boiled and mashed)
  • 2 serrano peppers (1 tsp, chopped), (hari mirch)
  • 3/4 tsp red chili powder (cayenne pepper)
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin    (jeera powder)
  • 1 tsp mango powder   (amchur/amchoor powder)
  • 3 tbsp fresh cilantro leaves (dhaniya ke patte)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp butter, unsalted (softened)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Prep

  • Firstly, scrub the potatoes clean if dirty and rinse them under running water.
  • Rinse and chop the serrano peppers and cilantro finely.
  • Once you peel the potatoes, place them in a bowl. Then use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to mash them. Additionally, make sure there are no lumps. Further add in chopped serrano peppers, red chili powder, garam masala, ground cumin, dried mango powder, cilantro leaves and salt. Furthermore, mix well.

Notes

  • On a scale of spice levels of 1 to 5, with 1 being low and 5 being hot, I would place this dish at 3.5. The cheese balances out the peppers, so even though it sounds spicy its not. You can modify the amount of serrano peppers and red chili powder as per your spice tolerance.
  • Make sure the butter is softened so that it spreads evenly and easily. To soften butter you can warm it up for a few seconds.
  • If you like it very cheesy you can add more cheese.
  • I have used large bread slices.
