Delicious, smooth, and fragrantly spiced Aloo Tamatar Chokha – Mashed Potatoes with Tomatoes is a great side dish to serve with paratha or roti (tortilla). This is a must-try recipe and is super easy to make.

Even though this recipe takes just 15 minutes to complete, most of the time is just waiting for it to be ready.

Ingredients needed for Aloo Tamatar Chokha – Mashed Potatoes with Tomatoes

  • 4 boiled potatoes (722 gms)
  • 1 onion ( 1 cup chopped finely)
  • 1 tomato small (3/4 cup chopped finely)
  • 1 tomato puree (1/2 cup puree )
  • 3 garlic cloves (1/2 tbsp minced)
  • 2 green chilis ( 3/4 tbsp choped)
  • 1/2 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chili
  • 3/4 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon
  • 1 tbsp oil mustard
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1 tsp salt

METHOD –

First, make sure to boil the potatoes until fork-tender. I used the instant pot and cooked them on high pressure for 12 minutes with natural pressure release. Second rinse and chop the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chillies finely. Third puree 1 small tomato. Finally, mince the garlic.

Further, peel the boiled potatoes and mash them. They need to have some texture and don’t need to be super fine.  Furthermore, add in chopped onions, chopped tomato, pureed tomato, minced garlic, chopped green chillies, black salt, Kashmiri chili powder, chaat masala, lemon juice, mustard oil, cilantro,and salt. Mix well. That’s all. Finally, Aloo Chokha is ready. Enjoy with roti or rice.
