Zaffrani Salmon Tikka – Air Fryer Salmon with Saffron is a fast and simple way to cook salmon, which results in seared edges and tender, flaky center. Ready quickly, low carb & low calorie this recipe is a great weeknight edition. Moreover, this easy recipe creates perfectly cooked salmon filets every time, and you won’t believe how easy it is to make delicious salmon in the Air Fryer! I used the Instant Vortex Plus 6 Quart 6-in 1 Air Fryer for this recipe.

Ingredients needed for Zaffrani Salmon Tikka – Air Fryer Salmon with Saffron

Salmon fillet with skin on.

Greek yogurt: This is key. Plain yogurt won’t cut it. It tends to get watery. You need plain Greek yogurt or strained yogurt also known as hung yogurt in India. It basically means that the excess water is strained or drained out.


Other ingredients: Ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, oil, ground coriander, ground cumin, green chillis (serrano peppers), saffron strands, salt, Kasuri methi, white pepper, roasted besan, ground turmeric, garam masala.

METHOD –

First, dry the salmon with a paper towel. Second using shears chop them to 4 to 5 inch pieces. 

Prep – First, rinse and grind the serrano peppers in a spice blender.

Second,  dry roast the chickpea flour on a pan on medium heat.

Further, in a mixing bowl, add in the yogurt, 1 tbsp oil, ginger garlic paste, ground coriander, lemon juice, ground cumin, serrano peppers (green chili), saffron strands, salt, Kasuri Methi, white pepper powder, roasted chickpea flour, ground turmeric, and garam masala. Mix  well. Furthermore add in the fish and coat well.

Cover the marinated fish bowl with a lid. Marinate the fish for 30 minutes to an hour. Additionally, you can also marinate it overnight in the refrigerator.

AIR FRY –

Also, I line my Air fryer basket with aluminum foil. Poke holes in the aluminum foil, so the air circulates easily. Further, when you are ready to cook, grease the aluminum foil in the  Air Fryer  basket with oil or cooking spray. 

Make sure to grease well or else the fish will get stuck and break. I used fish with skin so that worked great.

Air Fry at 400 Fahrenheit or 200 Celsius for 15 minutes, flip them over at 10 minute mark. Don’t overcoat the basket with the fish filet. Furthermore, every air fryer is different so check after the 15-minute mark. You can increase or decrease the time as per your liking.

Pan version –

First, heat 1 tbsp oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Second, cook the salmon, skin side up, until golden and crisp, about 4 minutes. Also, do not move the filets as they cook. Further, carefully flip the fillets and reduce the heat to medium. Continue cooking until done to your liking, 4 to 5 minutes more.
