These Peri Peri French Fries – Air Fryer Spicy Fries are bursting with favor. If you’ve been eating plain French fries then you’ve been missing out.
The spice mix is not authentic African Peri Peri. I have tried to Indianize it by adding Kashmiri chili powder and ground coriander. However, this recipe is a bomb!
What ingredients do I need to make Peri Peri Fries – Air Fryer Spicy Fries?
Kashmiri chili powder, ground turmeric, crushed red chili pepper, oregano leaves, ground coriander, onion powder, sugar, ground black pepper, garlic powder, ground ginger, Yukon gold potatoes, salt, and oil of choice.
I typically use the McCormick brand for most spices.

Should I soak the potatoes for this Peri Peri French Fries – Air Fryer Spicy Fries recipe?
Soaking potatoes in cold water helps get rid of starch, which makes them extra crispy when air-fried. If you have time, soak them for 20 minutes. However, if you don’t have time you can eliminate the soaking process.
How do I make Peri Peri French Fries – Air Fryer Spicy Fries?
First, rinse and peel the potatoes. Secondly, slice the potatoes into ½ inch to 1-inch thick sticks. Don’t slice them super thin, like shoestrings. Slice the potatoes evenly, this will ensure that all potatoes are uniformly cooked and browned.
Soak the potato slices in cold water for twenty minutes for crisp potatoes. However, if you are in a rush you can eliminate the soaking process. I personally feel, soaking makes the fries crispy.
When ready to cook, drain the water and pat the potatoes dry with a kitchen towel.
Furthermore, when you are ready to cook, grease your Air Fryer basket with oil. I grease mine by rubbing, brushing, or spraying, a little bit of oil on the bottom grate. Then, follow your air fryer directions for preheating at 360°F for 5 minutes.
When it’s preheated, working in batches, place the potatoes in a single layer. Cook in the air fryer at 360°F for 16 to 18 minutes. After the first 8-10 minutes, toss the fries in the basket (be careful as it’s hot) so all pieces get nice and crispy.

Spice Mix:
While your potatoes are getting air fried make the spice mix. Mix all the spices in a bowl and set aside.
Coat the Fries:
You’ll know the potatoes are done when they have a nice golden-brown color on the outside and they can be effortlessly stabbed with a fork. Also, every air fryer is different so check after the 14-minute mark. You can increase or decrease the time as per your liking.
Finally, take out the fries in a bowl and brush them with oil generously. The oil allows the peri peri spice mix to coat well. Sprinkle the season mix generously and shake the bowl to ensure fries are evenly covered. Taste and adjust salt, if necessary. Serve immediately.
You may have excess spice mix left. You can store in a air tight container, its lasts for 6 months.
